Diana Nyad, the record-breaking swimmer who swam from Cuba to Florida, had a motto, “Find a way!” It helped her move forward in spite of having to face incredibly difficult challenges.
I like those words very much and have adopted them to use for particular goals; I use them for a time until they no longer serve me well, until I feel a need to find another way to go. I will know when it’s time to look for other words of inspiration.
I want to share what I wrote last week once again because these are important words as well, maybe ones that will help those who read them:
Sometimes when you face obstacles or things thrown in front of you on your path, what do you do? I guess it depends on the specific situation, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that what’s there is meant to block you—it does NOT mean you can’t move forward in a positive direction, in spite of whatever seems to be holding you back. You could find a way to go around, over, or through the immediate “wall” because even when you feel stuck in one place, you are moving forward in time, even if you are not making the progress you would like.
Maybe a better way to look at it is this: wonder how badly you want what’s on the path beyond the obstacles—what goals are you trying to reach, what is it you want to create for yourself or others, what do you truly want to experience on this journey?
And you may just have to think about that for a while. Maybe it’s there to force you to take an unexpected detour from your originally planned route, but that doesn’t mean it can’t bring you moments of joy, peace, love, and success—what I refer to as experiencing The Inside Advantage.
That detour will still offer new opportunities for new and different experiences than you had previously imagined. Rather than putting up resistance to these obstacles, perhaps embracing them will allow life to flow more smoothly; you may find that you are stronger, more resilient, and even more adventurous than you realized. It really does depend on your perspective, doesn’t it?
Wishing you a safe and pleasant journey…
