This week I’d like to share more from my book, The Inside Advantage: How Ordinary People Can Accomplish Extraordinary Things.
A moment of insight due to a profound, emotional experience can sometimes change our lives forever.
For example, a young, deaf boy was harassed and badly beaten on a school bus. He crouched under the seat in a fetal position, crying. At that moment, he swore to himself that he would never again allow anyone to make him feel ashamed. He vowed to accept himself as he was and to make something of his life.
He is now a wealthy business owner who is proud of his extraordinary accomplishments. In that one moment, he took control of his life.
If we read something that touches us profoundly or hear a meaningful message in a speech that inspires us, we might reevaluate our old ways of thinking.
After one of my presentations, the cameraman who had come to film the seminar told me that the next time I needed a camera crew, I would have to find someone else. When I asked why, he told me that he had made a decision during my presentation to close his business and go back to college.
He had a moment of insight in which he believed that he could accomplish something he had always wanted to do.
When we experience either an intensely traumatic or wonderfully uplifting event, our perceptions and beliefs can automatically change. When we lose a young person close to us, we may stop and reexamine life and its meaning. Some people become angry and cynical, while others view life as much more precious. These interpretations of what has happened alter what we believe in our hearts and how we experience our futures.

Until next time…
