BLOG: Understanding Human Nature

You can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

I heard these words again on TV this week; this reminded me that people will be who they are, and for the most part, who they have always been.
Some of us change through introspection—looking deep inside and gaining insight (The Inside Advantage). We also must be willing to take action to BE better. When looking inside though, some don’t like what they see—they feel they are not good enough, and don’t know how to change. They seem to take every opportunity to make others feel as miserable as they do deep inside. Often it’s not even a conscious way of living; it happens because it’s just their nature. Not everyone can learn to love themselves (our most important lesson), but when we do, it changes everything!

When you see a loved one making poor choices, bad decisions, and you know in your heart it’s not in their best human interest, maybe we can gain some solace in thinking it’s probably what their soul needs to experience in this lifetime.

Still, you give sound advice and try to get them to see how their actions will affect not only their lives but also the lives of others. It’s like talking to a brick wall. People will do what they do because it’s their nature.

A couple of years ago, as I was backing out of a driveway in the midst of an emotional, chaotic event, I heard myself speaking out loud words that seem to be given to me — divinely inspired for sure — in that moment when it was exactly what I needed to hear in order to better understand others, to let go, and move forward in my own life. These were words that came TO me rather than FROM me.

What I heard and said aloud was:  “Everyone has the right to make their own decisions, even if it seems that those decisions are not in their own best interest, therefore they must live with the consequences.” It’s their journey and what they are experiencing must be what their soul needs.

The story of the FROG and SCORPION fits this topic well. Read it on my website blog at

Are you acting like a frog or scorpion? Do you know others who are just like these two?

Change what YOU can — how you think, how you feel, and what you do. That’s really all we have control over.

Thank you for joining me on this spiritual journey. See you next time…

Blessings, Love & Light,

Touch a Heart with TIA
